EGView Menu Options

EGView provides standard Microsoft Windows application menus for File, Edit, View, Window and Help options. The File menu contains ‘New Aircraft Profile’, ‘Open Flight’, ‘Close Flight’, ‘Import Data File’, ‘Save Chart’, ‘Print Chart’, ‘Exit’. Specific functionality for each menu option is described below.

File Menu (Alt+F)

New Aircraft Profile – This menu option opens the ‘Create New Aircraft Profile’ dialog. The fundamental organizational principal is the aircraft profile. It is recommended that you take the time to fill out the profile correctly.

Open Flight – The ‘Open Flight’ dialogue allows you to select flight data associated with a specific aircraft. After selecting the aircraft profile in profile drop down box you can choose the flight from the Flight Tree control. The flights are grouped by Year and Month and then sorted by flight date. Open the flight by selecting it from the Flight tree and pressing enter or double clicking on the desired flight.

Close Flight – Clears graph and the Flight Data information.

Import Flight – The Import Flight dialog allows you to import .CSV and .LOG files from your GEM , JPI or Avidyne engine monitors. After opening the Import Flight dialog, select the Aircraft Profile; (you can create a new profile by selecting the ‘New Profile’ command button).

·        Type path and file name of the data file(s) or select the browse button to search for data on your computer. To import multiple files hold the shift key while making file selection.

·        Enter a flight description for the specified flight(s). If you are importing multiple flights, the flight description will be the same for all flights. You can change the descriptions later in the Edit Flight Descriptions dialog.

·        Select OK.

·        All flights will be imported into the database and associated with the selected Aircraft Profile. The last flight selected will be opened into the EGView Chart after importing has finished.

Export Current Flight to Data File - Exports the current flight to a data file for use by other applications.

Save Chart as… – The Save Chart option allows you to save the chart in specified format. You can select Bitmap (BMP), Enhanced Meta File (EMF) or JPEG File Interchange format (JPEG). Type filename; choose file type, location and select Save. In the case of a multi-engine file, the Save Chart option will save the active (top most) chart.

Save Chart Properties – The Save Chart Properties option allows you to save nearly all of the chart configuration properties to a file for later use. Items such as Chart Title Font, Chart Title Color, Chart Title Style, Axis color, background color etc. can all be stored in a configuration file. These configuration files are stored in a plane text format, however directly editing them is not recommended.

These configuration files can be loaded when you need a different view of the chart for either printing, overhead displays or on screen displays. EGView is installed with three default chart configuration files (Chart Properties – On Screen.cfg; Chart Properties Presentation and Overheads.cfg; and Chart Properties – Printing.cfg). These default files have been configured for optimal viewing for these three purposes. To load a different Chart Properties file, use the Load Chart Properties menu. NOTE: You can use the View Options – General Tab to select a default Chart Properties file which will be loaded each time a new flight is selected.

There is no limit on the number of Chart Properties files that you can have. Only one Chart Properties file will be used at any time and a single set of properties will be used for both the LEFT and RIGHT engines in the case of a multi-engine aircraft.

To create a new Chart Properties file, you should set the chart to the desired configuration by picking colors, fonts etc. from the Chart Properties button. Then, select Save Chart Properties from the File menu.

Load Chart Properties – The Load Chart Properties option allows you to load specific sets of properties which were saved in the Save Chart Properties command.

Print Chart – Opens printer dialogue box and allows you to select printers and print options before you print the chart. In the case of a multi-engine file, the print option will print the active (top most) chart. Select printer, pages, number of copies and select OK.

Print Preview

Exit – Exits the program.

Edit Menu (Alt+E)

Undo Zoom – Returns the chart scaling to the previous setting.

Copy Chart – Copies the chart to the clipboard for use by other programs. In the case of multi-engine aircraft, currently selected (top most) chart will be copied to the clipboard.

Flight Descriptions – Allows user to edit the descriptions of the flights in the database. Select the aircraft profile in order to see the associated flights for the aircraft. You can also delete specific flights from the database by selecting the flight and pressing the ‘Delete Flight’ button.

Aircraft Profiles – Allows the user to edit, create or delete aircraft profiles. The three Tabs allow the user to specify the aircraft, engine type(s) and engine monitor for their aircraft.

View Menu ( Alt+V)

The view menu allows you to select which data channels to view in the EGView Chart. In the example below the user can select RPM, FF, HP, MAP and/or TIT to be displayed in the Graph window. The most common and most interesting options of RPM, FF, HP, MAP and TIT have been added to the View menu. If you have other engine data that was recorded that you would like to display you must use the ‘View Options dialog to select it.

All EGT’s – Toggles the EGT data channels on and off.

All CHT’s – Toggles the CHT data channels on and off.

Averages - The user can toggle the average EGT and/or CHT readings for each side of the engine. For example – if you have a 6 cylinder Lycoming engine, EGT Right Side will display the average EGT temperature for EGT1, EGT3 and EGT 5.

Reset Chart Axis – Returns the chart scaling to the default settings.

View Options

In the View Options dialog under the View Data Channels the user can choose the desired engine data to display. The View Options dialog contains check boxes for all possible Data Channels from all supported Engine Monitor manufacturers. Therefore, several options will be enabled or disabled based on which engine monitor you have selected in the aircraft profile. If the options do not match the data from your aircraft you must go to the Edit Aircraft Profiles menu and change your engine monitor setting match the options in your aircraft.

View Options – Defaults Tab

The user can select the X and Y axis value defaults for the Graph window. These defaults will be reapplied to the Graph window when the user selects View – Reset Chart Axis from the main program window. The ‘Reset’ button sets all of the values to their original settings.

View Options – Limits Tab

The user can set limit values for reference in the Graph window.  These limits are generally the same ones that the user has set in his or her engine monitor.

View Options – General Tab

In the View Options dialog, under the General tab, the user can select the following items:

·        The directory and file where the EGView.MDB database is located.

·        The directory and file of the Default Chart Properties file. This is a Chart Properties file (see Save Chart Properties on the File menu) that will be used as a default. These settings will be applied to each flight as they are opened.

·        The lengths of the flights that will be available in the Open Flight dialogue box.

·        Whether the Time Scale axis (X-Axis)  is presented as duration in minutes; ZULU time or LOCAL time.

·        Additionally the flights can be grouped by Year & Month if desired.
